Conference

We are happy to announce the first conference on "Environmental biofilms and flocs: matrix composition, properties and applications" to be held at Aalborg University, Aalborg, Denmark, Tuesday– Thursday, 14 – 16 April 2026.
Venue: AAU Create Auditorium, Aalborg, Rendsburggade 14
Dates: 14 – 16 April 2026.
Environmental biofilms and flocs can be found everywhere in nature and engineered systems, yet little is known about the microbes involved and their biofilm-forming capabilities. Improved biofilm control could help address many water and environmental challenges. At the same time, the extracellular polymers found in biofilms/flocs produced in wastewater treatment plants represent a valuable resource with promising applications. We aim to bring together researchers and professionals for three days of sharing and discussing cutting-edge science in the field of environmental biofilms and their extracellular matrix constituents.
This conference is organized in the framework of the REThiNk project, in collaboration with partners from Aalborg University (Denmark), Aarhus University (Denmark), and Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands).

Abstract registration
We welcome researchers and practitioners to join us and share novel research focusing on the matrix of biofilms and flocs in environmental and engineered systems. This conference offers a platform to present and discuss findings and opportunities within composition, properties and application of biopolymers.
You have the opportunity to submit an abstract (500 words) for either a poster or an oral presentation.
Register your abstract here: https://forms.office.com/e/AQrR0qtUqJ
Registration and prices
- Conference fee 350 €
- Conference dinner 50€
The conference fee covers access to sessions and exhibition, coffee breaks, lunches and welcome reception. Conference dinner in the remarkable Musikkens Hus is charged separately (50 €). Travel costs and accommodation are covered by the participants.
